The book gives a comprehensive description of rare orbicular plutonic rock types in Finland. Land management in Finland has traditionally been very detailed and the first maps of all bedrock outcrops in the southern part of the country had been published by the early 20th century. Today, there are voluminous GIS databases of the Geological Survey of Finland for all types of data including occurrences of such rare rock-types as orbicular plutonic rocks. It is not surprising that the number of occurrences of Finnish orbicular rocks described here comprise almost a third of all known occurrences in the world.
