This volume forms part of the Short Course Series produced by the Mineralogical Association of Canada and is a collection of papers produced for the workshop that preceded the 10^th International Platinum Symposium held in Finland in August 2005. It is a major work for the five-year IGCP project 497 entitled ‘Sustainable Use of Platinum Group Elements (PGE) in the 21st Century: Risks and Opportunities’ and the editor, Professor J. Mungall, is to be congratulated on bringing all these papers together into one volume.
