The title and particularly the cover, with a picture of an auger, tape, sieves and sample bags suggest this might be a manual about how to do field geology but in fact it is very different; it is a mini encyclopaedia of geology. The purpose of the book is clearly explained; it is aimed at Australian geologists primarily working in the mining industry. It provides them with a wide range, but not great depth, of information on many relevant topics. The authors hope it might be of value to a wider audience.
