A practicing or student geochemist would, no doubt , give a warm welcome to a compendium of geochemistry since the subject is wide and fast moving. Much has been happening over the last decade or so in the fields of dating methods, of using isotopic and other chemical approaches in unravelling past climate changes, of the compositions and temperatures of hydrothermal fluids, of the geochemistry of the mantle and core, and of much else besides. How would a geochemists expectations be met by this volume of nearly 500 pages? The cover blurb aims to set the scene with the words "Yuan-Hui Lis book offers professional and students alike an indispensable up-to-date guide to geochemistry, bringing together new information on topics ranging from nucleosynthesis to crystal chemistry, from the systematics of chemical variation in the earths core to the composition of complex organics."
