When this book was published in hardback in 1997 it was hailed as an important, though expensive, addition to the bookshelf of those working in and around rock magnetism. Four years later, the publishers have finally realised that a paperback edition at a more reasonable price will make this work accessible to a wider audience.

David Dunlop and Özden Özdemir are highly respected members of the rock magnetic community, and this book provides a useful summary of the work which has been going on in rock magnetism over the past thirty years.
