Compared with the number of summary volumes that have appeared on the orogenic belts to the east, Turkey has been less well represented. This volume is a welcome addition, filling in some details of the geological development of this part of the Alpine orogenic system. The closure in Turkey stems from the destruction of Tethys that began in the late Triassic, and this compendium details some of the events from then to the present day.
