The last few decades of the twentieth century witnessed a change in direction for uranium research, from exploration and exploitation to environmental remediation and planning of nuclear waste storage. This shift, together with improved analytical techniques has considerably advanced our knowledge of the behaviour of uranium in the geosphere, particularly in low temperature systems. This volume attempts to span these new developments with 14 chapters written by 24 authors, covering a wide range of topics from historical aspects, crystal chemistry and structure, mineralogy and paragenesis, ore deposits, fluid geochemistry, analytical techniques and environmental aspects (microbial, groundwater, and nuclear waste disposal). For a full list of papers see Mineralogical Abstracts, M.A. 00M/2350.
