This book includes the papers presented at a British Geological Survey conference held in 1996. The subject matter covered by the book is very important in the present waste- and environmentally-conscious climate. It is clear from the contents of the papers that much of the information contained has been updated from that originally presented in 1996 and includes more recent research data of particular relevance to current waste disposal practice.
The book contains nineteen papers all of which are well presented and illustrated, with references which provide the reader with significant sources of further information on this important subject. The primary aim of the book and, presumably the original conference, was to emphasise the benefits of the integration of chemical and physical factors in the design of cost effective and environmentally appropriate waste containment. The laboratory data and modelling results presented satisfy this objective and point to the need for a multidisciplinary approach to waste containment design.
The subject matter covers fundamental techniques, radioactive wastes, landfill barriers and metalliferous wastes (the . . . [Full Text of this Article]
