Welcome to another volume of Mineralogical Magazine, the first of a new era. I do not refer to the dawn of the millennium (I suspect that, by the time you read this, we shall all be heartily fed up of any mention of the word), but to the dawn of electronic publishing of the journal. This edition of Mineralogical Magazine is the first to be published simultaneously in electronic and traditional print media. The electronic version is now available at no extra charge to all paper-copy subscribers. All users of the world wide web will be able to browse the contents and read the abstracts of all papers published since 1999. You can find more information on how to gain access to the online version of the journal by visiting the Societys web-site at http://www.minersoc.org
